Kitchen Remodel in Travis Heights, Austin, TX
This 1962 Travis Heights home still had its original galley kitchen with orangish stained cabinets, wall paneling, and a layout that felt closed in. The homeowners wanted a brighter, more open space that connected better to the living and dining areas. Owner, Bert Bell reworked the entire plan, finalizing the scope and selections before demo to keep the project organized from start to finish.
We removed everything down to the framing and opened the pass‑through to the living room to create a wider visual connection. The wall to the dining area was also opened, transforming the once‑tight galley into a more open, functional layout. New flooring was installed throughout the entire house for a seamless look, and the kitchen was rebuilt with modern cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a 4x12 herringbone tile backsplash as a clean focal point.
Beyond the kitchen, we upgraded several systems throughout the home, including a tankless water heater, whole‑house water softener, filtration system at the kitchen sink, and an instant hot water system in the master bath. We also designed and built a custom office desk and added a new walnut fireplace mantel to tie the updated spaces together.
The homeowners appreciated the communication, organization, and attention to detail throughout the project. The finished kitchen and connected living spaces now feel open, modern, and true to the character of the home.

And as expected, his involvement contributed to an outcome that was far better than what we imagined it could be. Despite being a picky client, Bert and his team exceeded expectations on every single detail. Our kitchen is exponentially more enjoyable and functional, and we’re proud for having it designed and built by Bert and KbyB!” (See full review under “Testimonials”) – Rod & Rick (Austin, TX}
