Kitchen Remodel in Sunset Valley, Austin, TX
This Sunset Valley renovation home in Austin had a closed‑off kitchen separated from the dining and living areas by multiple walls and an exposed load‑bearing beam. The homeowners wanted an open, modern layout with more natural light and better functionality. Owner, Bert Bell reworked the entire plan, finalizing the scope and selections before demo to keep the project organized from start to finish.
We removed everything from floor to ceiling and took out two major walls to open the kitchen to the dining and living rooms. The visible load‑bearing beam was eliminated by modifying the trusses and installing a new structural beam above ceiling height, creating a clean, uninterrupted space. The doorway to the garage was relocated to expand the kitchen wall and improve the overall layout.
A new four‑panel window was added to bring in natural light and provide a view of the backyard, with buffet‑style storage cabinets installed below. The kitchen features an 11½‑foot island with a granite composite sink, quartz countertops, double trash roll‑out, dishwasher, and seating. Hardwood flooring was added to tie the kitchen into the existing dining and living areas, and the cabinetry was built in a frameless white shaker style for a clean, modern finish.
The homeowners appreciated the communication, craftsmanship, and attention to detail throughout the project. The finished space is open, bright, and dramatically more functional than the original layout.

“I knew from my first interview with Bert that he was the right contractor to hire to do our kitchen remodel. Bert is a true project manager. He sets realistic expectations, provides a detailed schedule, and cost breakdown structure and keeps the project moving forward - even if that means he needs to jump in and get his hands dirty. He stayed on budget and on schedule. Our new kitchen is better than we dreamed. We look forward to hiring Bert to do more work with us in the future.”– Kathryn M. (Austin, TX)
